Photos of Willie

Meet Willie

My dog Willie is a year old today. I chose today for his birthday as I don't know exactly which day in January he was born, but the man who gave him to me said he was six weeks old at the time so that would have him being born sometime in January 2008.

Willie was a surprise really. A man stopped by the house, knocked on the door and said he was looking for a blond-haired lady who had some kids and lived in the neighborhood and wanted to know if I knew where she lived. Not knowing any of my neighbors, I told him that there was one lady across the street that met with that description, but I really didn't know her.

He said that he had a couple of Jack Russell puppies for her and also wanted to know if I might want one too.

I told him, no, my landlord doesn't permit pets, but that I would love to come over to his house and see one as I am a great sucker when it comes to adorable pets. My landlord was standing in the yard with a smile on his face listening to that conversation too.

The man said that his friend who was diagnosed with cancer had two litters of Jack Russell puppies and just wanted to find good homes for them and that they were all free to a good home. With that said he left to look for my blond-haired neighbor across the street.

About 20 minutes later, there was another knock on the front door and there stood the man with an adorable six-week old bundle of Jack Russell energy with his little stump tail going ninety miles an minute.

I went outside into the yard and he told me "Here's your puppy!" I was speechless and couldn't say anything for a minute or two. Then I told him that I didn't order the puppy and that I couldn't keep him and that if I picked him up I wouldn't want to put him down, at which point the man put the pup into my arms and said, "he's your puppy."

Landlord just stood there and said, "He looks like he's your puppy."

And that's how I came to have Willie come to stay with my roommate and I. My roommate, as a matter of fact is also my landlord too so he makes the rules of what comes in and what goes out of this house.

Willie is a trained, not so well behaved Jack Russell Terror (errrrr Terrier). He can speak, play dead, sit, stay and fetch. He is an emotional case if I've ever seen one. He bonded with my roommate so really, he's not MY dog but he does tollerate me very well most of the time.

My friend, Julie, who raises her animals holistically has been very helpful with giving me advice how how to raise Willie without all the chemical stuff being given dogs these days. She raises all of her pets, and that includes cats, kittens, dogs, puppies, ducks, chickens, alpacas and goats using holistic medicnes and species specific foods.

When Willie gets into mischief or needs some doctoring I give Julie a call and she's always ready to either give advice or tell me which product would help him when he's sick.

Her website's (Wolf Creek Ranch - Home of Whispering Winds Holistic Animal Sanctuary) at http://wolfcreekranch1.tripod.com.

Willie, for the most part, has been a real joy to our household, but there are times when I'm ready to put a stamp on this head and ship him off to Siberia.

I'll write some stories about Willie and hope that there's another Jack Russell Terrier lover/owner who has similiar experiences to share.

In the meantime.......would love input from puppy, dog, cats, kittens or just pet lovers with similiar experiences to share!
